Former Mayor Targets Government Over Garbage Crisis

Mohali:

Former Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu today criticised the Punjab Government, the local MLA and the Municipal Corporation over the city’s worsening garbage management, alleging that authorities have failed to tackle the growing waste disposal problem
During a visit to the Nature Park behind Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Sidhu said large heaps of garbage dumped near the area have become a major concern, especially during the monsoon, as decomposing waste is spreading foul smell and affecting morning walkers and devotees.
He alleged that vacant plots across the city are being used as dumping sites due to the absence of a proper waste disposal system. Sidhu claimed that despite repeatedly urging the government during his tenure as Mayor to provide land for a scientific dumping ground, no concrete action was taken.
Demanding immediate intervention, he urged the Punjab Government to allot land for a modern waste processing facility, saying it is the only long-term solution to the city’s garbage problem and essential to prevent environmental and public health hazards.
