Drug Smuggler’s Illegal House Razed in Barmajra Under Punjab’s Anti-Drug Drive

Mohali :

In a significant crackdown under the Punjab Government’s ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign, authorities demolished the illegally constructed house of an alleged drug smuggler in Barmajra village on Tuesday.
The action was carried out jointly by the police, civil administration, and village panchayat under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the supervision of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans (IPS), SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh, SP (PBI) Deepika Singh, and DSP Kharar-I Ishan Singla.
The demolished property belonged to Anil, son of Munna Chauhan, a resident of Shiv Colony, Barmajra. According to police officials, Anil had been warned on several occasions to stop his alleged involvement in drug trafficking but continued to use the premises as a base for illegal narcotics activities.
Investigations revealed that the house had been constructed by illegally encroaching on village shamlat land and was allegedly financed through proceeds earned from the drug trade. Anil is currently lodged in jail in connection with FIR No. 183 dated July 10, 2026, registered under Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act at Balongi Police Station.
Speaking about the anti-drug campaign, DSP Ishan Singla said that since December 2025, Balongi Police have registered 70 NDPS cases and arrested 103 accused involved in drug-related offences. Police have also intensified awareness drives, held community meetings, and facilitated treatment and rehabilitation for addicts through OOAT Centres.
Officials stated that sustained action against drug traffickers has improved public confidence in the police and contributed to a decline in crimes such as theft and snatching in the area. They reiterated that the campaign against drugs will continue with full force and that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the narcotics trade.
The demolition serves as a strong warning to drug traffickers and reflects the Punjab Government’s determination to eradicate the drug menace and make the state drug-free.
