A fire broke out at the PWD office in Phase 2, Mohali, on Tuesday morning. Furniture, equipment and records kept inside the office were damaged in the fire. As soon as information about the incident was received, two fire tenders reached the spot and launched an operation to bring the blaze under control.
The fire was quite intense, making it somewhat difficult for the fire brigade team to control it. Thick smoke continued to emerge from inside the office, while the high temperature also created difficulties during the firefighting operation. However, after considerable efforts, the fire personnel managed to bring the blaze under control.
Short Circuit Suspected as Cause of Fire
According to the preliminary investigation by the Fire Department, a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. However, the exact cause will be confirmed only after the completion of a detailed investigation.
The department will now assess the extent of damage caused by the fire. It will also investigate whether the office was complying with fire safety regulations and other prescribed safety standards.
According to Fire Department officials, the immediate priority was to prevent the fire from spreading and bring it completely under control, which the team successfully accomplished. An assessment of the total loss caused by the fire is currently underway.
