Under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma, IPS, and Superintendent of Police Traffic Ramandeep Singh, PPS, awareness seminars on drug abuse and road safety were organised at various educational institutions.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic Karnail Singh, PPS, addressed students at Sri Guru Nanak Dev College of Education, Majatri, Meritorious School, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, and Sardar Baldev Singh Senior Secondary Smart School. Students were educated about the harmful effects of drugs, police action against drug peddlers and the importance of following traffic rules.
Karnail Singh urged students to contribute towards the success of the Punjab Government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign. He appealed to them to immediately inform the police if they come across information regarding drug selling or consumption. Information can be shared through WhatsApp at 9779100200, Police Helpline 112, or the nearest police station.
The students were encouraged to stay away from drugs and engage in sports and other constructive activities. The importance of responsible driving, avoiding drunk driving and speeding, and following traffic regulations was also highlighted.
The DSP further informed students about the legal consequences of allowing children below 18 years of age to drive. They were advised to make road safety an integral part of their daily lives and encourage family members to follow traffic rules.
Information about the Good Samaritan/Farishta Scheme was also shared. Students were told that people who help road accident victims and ensure their timely transportation to a hospital can receive a cash reward as per government rules.
Karnail Singh appealed to the students to share the information received during the seminars with their families and people in their neighbourhood and encourage them to stay away from drugs, avoid drunk and rash driving, and follow traffic rules.
Principals, teachers and staff members of the participating institutions were present during the seminars and appreciated the police initiative. They thanked the Traffic Police for educating students on issues of drug prevention and road safety.
