A disabled man was allegedly robbed of his purse, mobile phone and important documents by two bike-borne youths in the Palam Enclave area of Zirakpur. The entire incident reportedly took place within just a few seconds.
The victim, Surinder Pal, a resident of Palam Enclave, said he was on his way to his institute in Jarnail Enclave at around 10 am when two youths riding a motorcycle approached him from behind. Before he could understand what was happening, the youths allegedly snatched his purse and fled from the spot at high speed.
According to Surinder Pal, the purse contained around Rs 5,000 in cash, a credit card, mobile phone, disability certificate, identity card and other important documents. He said the loss of the disability certificate and other documents has caused him considerable inconvenience.
The victim said he is disabled and has difficulty walking, due to which he could not chase the accused after the incident. He has approached the police and requested that the suspects be identified and arrested and that his purse and important documents be recovered.
Local residents have expressed concern over incidents of snatching in the area and urged the police to increase patrolling in Palam Enclave and surrounding areas. They have also sought examination of CCTV footage from the spot and the route taken by the accused to establish their identity.
The victim alleged that despite submitting a complaint, he has not yet received a satisfactory response from the police.
