Police have arrested three persons and recovered 120 grams of heroin from their possession during a special drive against drug trafficking, being conducted under the directions of SSP Varun Sharma, IPS.
The operation was carried out by the Operation Cell team under the supervision of senior police officers. According to police, the team was patrolling near the Sector 79/80 light point when three suspicious persons were spotted. On seeing the police vehicle, they allegedly tried to move away. A search led to the recovery of 120 grams of heroin.
A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Sohana Police Station and all three accused have been arrested.
The accused have been identified as Gurpinder Singh alias Peelu (33), Lovepreet Singh alias Love (29) and Gursewak Singh alias Sega (25), all residents of Harar Khurd, Ramdas, Amritsar Rural. Police said all three have previous cases registered against them, including NDPS cases.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that they were bringing heroin from the Amritsar area and supplying it in SAS Nagar and other districts. A court has granted two days’ police remand of the accused.
Police are conducting further interrogation to trace the source of the drugs and identify other persons linked to the supply network.
