Chandigarh : The Chandigarh Police have filed an “untraced” report in a case registered against Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a Khalistani terrorist and chief of the banned separatist organisation Sikhs for Justice, who had allegedly threatened to kill judges through a suicide bomber. The report has now been accepted by the Chandigarh District Court after police failed to trace the accused during the investigation.
The case was registered nearly four years ago under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code after a threatening message surfaced on social media. In the post, Pannu allegedly warned of suicide bomber attacks targeting judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court of India. An FIR in the matter was lodged in 2022 at the Sector 3 Police Station following a complaint by Inspector Sukhdweep Singh, who was serving as the Station House Officer (SHO) at the time. According to the complaint, the threatening message also referred to a group called “Qurbani Jatha” and claimed that representatives of SFJ would carry out suicide attacks on members of the judiciary.
Following the registration of the FIR, police initiated an investigation and attempted to verify the claims made in the online post.
Officials said that several locations mentioned in the message were searched and different leads were examined during the probe.
However, despite extensive efforts, investigators were unable to trace Pannu or identify any persons directly
linked to the alleged threat. While accepting the report, the court noted that the case had been thoroughly investigated but no clue about the accused could be established. The court also directed the concerned investigating officer and the SHO to continue further investigation if any fresh evidence or information emerges in the future.
Sikhs for Justice, which is banned in India under anti-terror laws, has been linked to several separatist activities advocating the creation of Khalistan. Pannu, who is believed to be operating from abroad, has been facing multiple criminal cases in India.
The National Investigation Agency has also registered cases against him in the past and seized several of his properties in Chandigarh and parts of Punjab as part of its investigations into activities related to separatist propaganda and terror funding.
