New Delhi : Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said the proposed ₹1 lakh crore Economic Stabilisation Fund will provide India with fiscal flexibility to deal with global economic uncertainties and unforeseen crises.
Replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha on the second batch of supplementary demands for grants, the minister said the fund would act as a buffer to absorb shocks arising from global challenges, including tensions in West Asia.
However, with additional receipts of ₹80,000 crore expected, the net additional cash spending will be about ₹2.01 lakh crore.
Sitharaman said the fiscal deficit for the financial year 2025–26 will remain within the Revised Estimates at 4.4 per cent of GDP, the same as the Budget Estimates.
According to data from the Controller General of Accounts, the government had spent ₹36.90 lakh crore till January.
The supplementary demands also include ₹19,230 crore for fertiliser subsidies, ₹23,641 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, and ₹41,822 crore for the Ministry of Defence. The minister also assured that there would be no shortage of fertilisers for farmers.
