Mohali :
Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa today launched the construction work of a high-level bridge over the Ghaggar river at village Tiwana, aimed at improving connectivity across the region and easing long-standing travel issues of local residents.
The ₹8.55 crore project will directly connect Dera Bassi with the Banur–Rajpura road, benefiting several villages along the Ghaggar belt and improving daily commute for thousands of people.
60-year-old demand fulfilled
Randhawa said the bridge fulfils a nearly six-decade-old demand of the local population and is a key development promise fulfilled under the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Improved connectivity and traffic relief
The 410-foot-long and 28-foot-wide bridge is expected to serve as an alternative route between the Rajpura–Ambala and Chandigarh–Ambala highways, helping reduce travel time and traffic congestion in the region.
Flood protection measures
The MLA also highlighted that a ₹10 crore embankment was constructed at the site last year to protect nearby villages from Ghaggar river flooding, with plans for further strengthening of the bund in the future.
Road development plans
He further announced that all damaged link roads in the constituency will be rebuilt within the next two to three months, with several development projects already approved.
Welfare schemes highlighted
Randhawa also referred to key state government initiatives including the ₹10 lakh health insurance scheme, 600 units of free electricity, Aam Aadmi Clinics, Schools of Eminence, stricter anti-sacrilege laws, and financial aid schemes for women.
The event was attended by a large number of local representatives, village sarpanches, panchayat members, officials, and residents from surrounding villages.
