Manholes covered with silt or dry leaves

Mohali :

With the onset of pre-monsoon showers, a serious civic concern has come to light across the city as numerous manholes meant for rainwater drainage remain clogged with dry leaves, silt, and garbage. Residents allege that despite repeated complaints, there has been little to no action from the authorities on the ground.
The accumulation of debris has rendered several drainage points ineffective, raising fears of waterlogging, traffic disruption, and potential health hazards in the coming rainy days. Many areas are already witnessing slow drainage, indicating the gravity of the situation.
Highlighting the issue, Mohali resident *Atul Sharma* urged the concerned officials to act promptly. He emphasized that manholes play a critical role in preventing urban flooding and their neglect could lead to serious consequences for residents.
Authorities must wake up and take immediate steps to ensure all manholes are cleaned and maintained regularly. Ignoring this issue can lead to water accumulation, mosquito breeding, and inconvenience to the public,” he said.
Residents have appealed to the Municipal Corporation to deploy sanitation teams and machinery for immediate desilting and clearance of blocked manholes. They also stressed the need for a long-term monitoring system to prevent recurrence of such negligence.
With the monsoon approaching, citizens hope that swift and effective action will be taken to safeguard Mohali from avoidable flooding and health risks. But Who Cares???
