Following a pollution complaint raised on social media regarding alleged industrial pollution near Village Sundran, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has taken cognizance of the matter and directed the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to investigate and take appropriate action.
The complaint was raised by social activist Bhupinder Singh on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), alleging that certain industrial units in Village Sundran were releasing black smoke and causing environmental pollution. Photographs and video evidence were also shared along with the complaint.
Taking the matter seriously, CPCB instructed the Punjab Pollution Control Board to conduct an inspection and submit an action taken report. Speaking on the matter, an SDO of PPCB said that a departmental team visited the site and carried out an inspection. Based on the deficiencies found during the inspection, action has been initiated against Bindra Associates.
The official stated that the unit has been given 15 days to comply with all pollution control norms and directions. Orders have also been issued directing the unit to deposit a bank guarantee of Rs 2 lakh. He warned that if the required improvements are not made within the stipulated period, strict legal action, including closure of the unit, may be taken.
The SDO further informed that another unit mentioned in the complaint, Shiksha Enterprises, was also inspected. A detailed report regarding the alleged violations has been sent to senior officials at the PPCB head office for further review and necessary action.
Social activist Bhupinder Singh said that industrial units must strictly follow environmental protection norms to ensure that public health and the environment are not adversely affected.
Following CPCB’s intervention and PPCB’s action, local residents are now watching closely to see whether the concerned industrial units comply with the directions within the given timeframe.
