Admin Seizes 450kg Spurious Paneer in Surprise Food Safety Raid, Cracks Down on Unlicensed Sellers

In a swift and decisive move to safeguard public health, the Chandigarh Administration conducted a surprise raid early Wednesday morning in Bapudham Colony, Sector-26. Acting under the guidance of the Chief Secretary and on the directions of the Secretary Health-cum-Commissioner Food Safety, a team from the Food Safety Administration, Health Department, raided a suspected premises around 7:00 AM.

During the inspection at House No. 714/2 and a pickup vehicle parked outside the premises, officials discovered approximately 450 kg of paneer stored under suspicious conditions. Food Safety Officers seized samples of paneer, desi ghee, and curd (dahi) from both the premises and the vehicle for analysis. The collected samples will be sent to a certified FSSAI-authorized Food Analyst Lab for testing.

Pending results, the entire stock of paneer was seized and placed under the custody of the food business operator as per the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. In addition, two challans were issued under Section 63 of the Act against the shopkeeper and vehicle operator for selling food products without a valid FSSAI license—a direct violation of food safety regulations.

Officials reiterated that strict legal action will follow if the samples are found to be non-compliant with food safety standards.

The Chandigarh Administration has urged the public to remain vigilant and purchase food only from licensed vendors who follow proper hygiene and quality standards. Citizens noticing any suspicious food-related practices are encouraged to report them to the Department of Food Safety & Standards, Directorate of Health Services, Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector-16, Chandigarh.

This crackdown marks a significant step by the administration toward ensuring safe and hygienic food for all residents.
