Chandigarh :
The Punjab Assembly will convene a special session on December 30 to discuss the changes made to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) amendment bill, following approval from the state cabinet. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema informed that the session will focus on debating the modifications in the bill.
The Chief Minister has already raised objections to the changes, and the state government is expected to move a resolution in the Assembly against them. Under the amendment, the central government’s share in the scheme, previously set at 10%, will now be increased to 40% for the states.
Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Warring stated that the party will support the government in the Assembly during the discussion on this issue.
