The Finance and Contract Committee of the Mohali Municipal Corporation, chaired by Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, held a key meeting to take decisions on city development projects. Senior Deputy Mayor Amrik Singh Somal, Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh Sandhu, Councillor Jasbir Singh Manku, and other officials were also present.During the meeting, work orders worth approximately ₹6.50 crore were issued, while estimates of around ₹5.5 crore were approved for various development works across the city. Mayor Jeeti Sidhu said the estimates were prepared keeping in mind the needs of all wards to ensure equitable development.
Projects approved include installation of street lights, road repairs, footpath construction, and public facilities such as badminton and volleyball courts and gyms. Special focus was given to improving sanitation arrangements in areas facing persistent issues, with some works costing around ₹5 lakh each.
Addressing public concerns, the Mayor clarified that mechanical road cleaning continues in the city, sometimes during mornings due to events like the Progressive Summit. He also addressed notices issued to shopkeepers for advertisement boards, urging those facing difficulties to contact the Municipal Corporation and submit complaints in writing.
Mayor Jeeti Sidhu added that the financial strengthening of the Municipal Corporation will be discussed in the upcoming budget meeting. He expressed hope that additional support from GMADA would allow larger-scale development works.
Noting Mohali’s rapid growth and rising population, the Mayor emphasized that the Municipal Corporation is committed to providing better civic facilities and will ensure that future budget plans reflect the city’s development needs.
