The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, inaugurated a two-day international seminar on “Darśana of Radhakrishnan: Eternal and Temporal” today. Scholars and researchers from India and abroad convened to explore the philosophy, intellectual contributions, and contemporary relevance of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
The event began with Vedic chanting and ceremonial lamp lighting. Professor Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, Director of IIAS, highlighted Radhakrishnan’s role in linking Indian spiritual traditions with modern global discourse. Dr. S. Ranganath, Convener of the seminar, emphasized Radhakrishnan’s philosophy as a bridge between Indian and global thought.
Keynote speaker Professor Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice-Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, noted Radhakrishnan’s interpretation of Vedanta in a modern context, fostering dialogue between Eastern and Western intellectual traditions. Professor ShashiPrabha Kumar, Chairperson of IIAS, stressed that such seminars promote spiritual unity, ethical values, and intercultural dialogue while introducing India’s philosophical heritage to younger scholars.
During the inaugural session, IIAS released several publications including Garland of Tribute, Ayurveda: Holistic Science of Wellbeing for the World, and Dayananda Saraswati and His Legacy.
In a key development, a new state-of-the-art, fully automated conference hall at the Siddharth Vihar Guest House of IIAS was inaugurated. Equipped with modern audio-visual systems and international-standard conferencing technology, the hall is expected to enhance academic events, seminars, and global scholarly interactions.
The seminar will feature research papers on Radhakrishnan’s humanism, Vedanta interpretations, engagement with the Bhagavad Gita, educational philosophy, and reflections on the future of civilization, providing a comprehensive exploration of his philosophical contributions.
