Negligence in Repair Work Raises Safety Concerns on Phase 5–Shahi Majra Dividing Road

Mohali:

Serious concerns have emerged over ongoing repair work on the dividing road in Phase 5, Shahi Majra, where a contractor has allegedly failed to follow even basic safety precautions.

Residents and commuters report that construction materials—particularly paver slabs—have been left scattered and unattended along the roadside. The complete absence of warning signs, barricades, or cautionary indicators has turned the stretch into a potential hazard for both pedestrians and motorists.

Commuters allege that the poorly managed site poses a constant risk of accidents, especially during nighttime when visibility is low. “Anyone can trip, or vehicles may skid due to these carelessly placed slabs. It’s an accident waiting to happen,” said Atul Sharma, a concerned resident.

Despite the work continuing for several days, no visible efforts have been made by the contractor to secure the area or ensure public safety. The situation reflects gross negligence and a lack of accountability in the execution of civic infrastructure projects.

Residents have urged municipal authorities to intervene immediately, enforce strict safety norms, and take action against those responsible for putting lives at risk.

The incident once again highlights the pressing need for effective monitoring and regulation of public works. But Who Cares???
