Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan was honoured in Kotkapura for the implementation of the Anti-Sacrilege law aimed at preventing religious desecration in the state.
The honour was conferred by Nihang Singh leader Baba Kulwant Singh Chanakya of Gurdwara Sahib Patshahi Dasvin, Kotkapura, following a religious ceremony that included recitation of Sukhmani Sahib, Nitnem Banis, Ardas and Hukamnama.
Speaking on the occasion, Baba Kulwant Singh Chanakya praised the “clean image and humble nature” of Speaker Sandhwan and said that the enactment of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill 2026 had brought satisfaction among the Sikh community worldwide.
He also credited Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Speaker Sandhwan for the legislation, stating that it reflected the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat.
Addressing the gathering, Speaker Sandhwan expressed gratitude to the Sangat and religious leaders, saying the development was achieved with collective support and blessings of Guru Sahib. He claimed that previous governments and political representatives had failed to take such steps despite being in power.
Sandhwan further stated that stricter provisions under the new law would act as a deterrent against sacrilege incidents, ensuring protection of religious sentiments in the future.
The event concluded with members of the Sangat expressing appreciation to the Punjab government for bringing in the legislation.
