Mohali :
Former Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has criticised the Central government over rising inflation, alleging that price hikes have resumed immediately after the election phase ended.
Speaking after meeting residents of village Gobindgarh, Bedi said the increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices—reportedly around ₹993—and a ₹261 hike in 5-kg cylinders has added financial pressure on households. He also warned that rising fuel prices could further push up transport and essential commodity costs.
Bedi alleged that while the government earlier claimed inflation was under control, it is now justifying price hikes by citing global factors, calling it misleading.
He further expressed concern over rural employment, claiming that weakened MGNREGA support has reduced job opportunities in villages, forcing both local and migrant workers to leave Punjab in search of work.
During the interaction, Bedi also announced his intention to contest the Mohali Assembly seat on a Congress ticket. He said he has been receiving strong public support during his village visits and promised to prioritise development issues if elected.
He added that rising inflation and unemployment will play a key role in the upcoming Assembly elections.
