Mohali :
Senior BJP leader Abha Bansal today launched a sharp attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, alleging that women in Punjab feel “betrayed” over the implementation of the Rs 1,000 monthly financial assistance scheme.
Bansal aid the Aam Aadmi Party had made a pre-election promise of Rs 1,000 per month for every adult woman but later introduced several eligibility conditions that were not clearly disclosed earlier. She alleged that many beneficiaries have been disappointed due to exclusions and delays in payments.
She also questioned why the scheme was implemented only from July despite being announced in the state Budget earlier this year, and why women did not receive payments for the preceding months of April, May and June.
“The women of Punjab feel cheated as the government has failed to deliver what was promised,” Bansal said, adding that the delayed rollout and revised conditions have created confusion and anger among potential beneficiaries.
She further alleged that women were expecting arrears but received only current-month benefits, and demanded that the government clarify the criteria and timeline of the scheme’s implementation.
Warning of possible protests, Bansal said that if the government fails to address concerns transparently, women across the state may be forced to take to the streets as well as express their anger through the ballot in future elections.
