Abha Bansal Targets Punjab Government Over Unfulfilled ₹1,000 Promise to Women

Mohali: Senior BJP Punjab leader Abha Bansal has launched a sharp attack on the AAP-led Punjab government over its unfulfilled promise of providing ₹1,000 per month to women, alleging that the assurance made before the Assembly elections was used to gain votes but has not been implemented even after four and a half years.

Speaking on the issue, Bansal said lakhs of women across Punjab are still waiting for the financial support promised by the government. She alleged that the commitment remained limited to election speeches and never turned into a concrete welfare measure.

Criticising the government ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Bansal claimed the issue is once again being highlighted only to attract voters. She asserted that if the Punjab government is genuinely serious about women’s welfare, it should immediately implement the scheme and also clear the pending arrears of the last four and a half years.

Bansal further questioned the government’s financial planning, stating that the scheme would require nearly ₹20,000 crore annually. According to her, the state government neither made proper budgetary arrangements nor displayed the political will needed to fulfil its promise.

“The women of Punjab are no longer satisfied with promises. They want accountability,” Bansal said, adding that women across the state have not forgotten the “broken promise” and would respond democratically at the appropriate time.
