Mohali:
A youth was killed and another seriously injured after a speeding Mahindra Thar crashed into a divider pillar near the Kumbra Light Point in Mohali today night.According to police and eyewitnesses, the SUV was travelling at high speed when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to hit the divider with great force. The impact completely damaged the front portion of the vehicle. Local residents rushed to the spot, informed the police and helped rescue the occupants.
The injured youth was admitted to a private hospital, while the deceased died on the spot. Police used a crane to remove the damaged vehicle from the road.
During the preliminary investigation, police reportedly recovered some suspicious items from inside the Thar, leading to suspicion that the occupants may have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the crash. However, officials said the exact cause of the accident and whether the occupants were intoxicated would be confirmed only after the medical examination and forensic investigation.
Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify the victims through the vehicle’s registration details and recovered documents. CCTV footage from the area is also being examined to determine the sequence of events leading to the accident.
