Harassing Small Traders Ahead of Diwali Is Unfortunate: Sanjeev Vashisht

Mohali:

Sanjeev Vashisht, District President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), strongly condemned the alleged action taken by the Municipal Corporation team against street vendors in Phase 7, Mohali, stating that harassing small traders ahead of an important festival like Diwali is highly unfortunate.

Vashisht said that small traders who earn their livelihood by operating roadside stalls and carts are an important part of society. During the festive season, these vendors invest their hard-earned money in purchasing goods in the hope of earning a reasonable income and meeting their families’ needs. Unnecessary harassment at such a crucial time directly affects their livelihood, he added.

He questioned the basis of the action against the vendors if they had already paid the prescribed fees and possessed valid receipts as proof of payment. He said that if any violation of rules had taken place, the concerned vendors should be clearly informed about it and action should be taken strictly in accordance with the established rules and regulations.

Vashisht emphasised that traders who have paid the required fees should not be subjected to injustice or unnecessary harassment. He urged the Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Mayor to intervene in the matter and ensure that the concerns of small traders are addressed fairly.

He further stressed that small traders should be treated sensitively during the festive season and their livelihood interests must be protected so that they can celebrate Diwali without unnecessary difficulties.
