Chandigarh :
In a move to strengthen consumer safety and ensure service transparency, authorities have issued a public advisory for all LPG consumers, urging them to perform basic checks at the time of gas cylinder delivery.
The advisory emphasizes that customers should not accept cylinders blindly and must verify key safety parameters, including the weight, seal integrity, and validity date of the cylinder.
Key Safety Guidelines for LPG Consumers:
-
Inspect the Safety Seal:
Consumers are advised to ensure that the safety seal on the cylinder is intact. Cylinders with broken, tampered, or missing seals should be rejected immediately. -
Check the Weight:
Delivery personnel are required to carry portable weighing scales. Consumers should request a live weight check to ensure the cylinder’s net weight (typically 14.2 kg) matches the standard. The gross weight, which includes the cylinder itself, is stamped on the body for verification. -
Verify the Cylinder’s Validity (Test Due Date – TDD):
Each LPG cylinder has a validity stamp on its neck ring indicating the next safety test due. The code format includes a letter and number (e.g., A-26, B-25) that denote the quarter and year:-
A = January to March
-
B = April to June
-
C = July to September
-
D = October to December
Consumers should not accept expired cylinders past their test date.
-
-
Collect Receipt or Digital Confirmation:
Always ask for a receipt or SMS confirmation of delivery. Confirm that the amount charged matches the official rate published by the distributor. -
Report Irregularities Promptly:
In case of underfilled cylinders, expired test dates, broken seals, or suspicious activity by delivery personnel, consumers are encouraged to report the issue to the LPG distributor or register a complaint through official customer care channels or the Department of Food and Supplies.
This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve consumer awareness and reinforce safety standards in LPG distribution across the country.
