The Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers’ Lab at IIT Ropar proudly hosted the Indian edition of the prestigious 6th Health Systems Innovation Hackathon, a global initiative organized by the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL). This year’s theme, “Building High-Value Health Systems: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence,” brought together bright minds from across disciplines to tackle real-world healthcare challenges using cutting-edge AI solutions.
The event saw participation from six interdisciplinary teams made up of students and professionals in medicine, AI, engineering, and public health. With guidance from a distinguished panel of mentors, participants addressed issues ranging from mental health support and pediatric care to AI-enabled diagnostics, electronic health record analysis, and intelligent communication systems in hospitals.
Prominent mentors and supporters of the hackathon included Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Mahajan, Neha Gupta, Dr. Brajesh Rawat, Dr. Khushman Kaur Bhullar, Gurjot Narwal (Founder & CEO, Gini Health), Dr. B.P.S. Parmar, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja (Director, IIT Ropar), and Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh (Dean R&D, IIT Ropar).
After two days of intense brainstorming and pitching, Team PiedPiper was crowned the winner for their innovative solution, HospitalAI—an AI-powered call management system that transcribes hospital calls in real-time in both English and Hindi, uses healthcare-specific NLP to classify queries, and routes them to the appropriate departments. The solution aims to reduce patient wait times, ease the burden on staff, and significantly improve the overall patient experience.
“By leveraging AI to tackle a critical inefficiency in India’s healthcare system, we aim to enhance accessibility and operational efficiency, delivering measurable impact where it’s needed most,” said the winning team members—Shubham Mojidra, Prasad Jumare, Satyansh Mittal, and Dhanav Garg.
Their victory secures them a place in an intensive two-week Bootcamp to refine their project, followed by a chance to be shortlisted among 20 top-performing teams for an extended mentorship phase. The final eight teams will move on to a four-week online HSIL Venture Incubation Program, featuring specialized seminars, workshops, and one-on-one mentoring to further accelerate their healthcare innovations.
The event underscored IIT Ropar’s growing reputation as a center for interdisciplinary innovation and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI-driven healthcare solutions in India.
