Health Department Steps Up Anti-Dengue Drive Under Weekly Campaign

Mohali :

The district health department carried out extensive inspections at plant nurseries and construction sites under the ongoing “Every Friday, Attack Dengue” campaign aimed at preventing the spread of dengue in the region.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain inspected the checking drive at Dhakoli and urged residents to ensure that no stagnant water is allowed to collect anywhere, as it becomes a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni said that senior health officials, ASHA workers and nursing college students are actively involved in inspecting containers and other potential mosquito breeding sites. She added that awareness activities are also being conducted to educate people about dengue symptoms, causes, prevention and treatment.
According to health officials, the campaign is being implemented across the district as per government directives. Teams are conducting door-to-door surveys and issuing challans in cases where mosquito breeding conditions are found.
Officials checked items such as coolers, flower pots, containers, refrigerators and other objects where water may accumulate. They warned that dengue larvae can quickly develop into dangerous mosquitoes capable of spreading the disease, which is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Health authorities also reiterated that dengue testing and treatment are available free of cost at government health facilities. Citizens have been advised to contact the health department helpline at 104 for more information.
Officials highlighted key dengue symptoms including high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases, bleeding from the nose, mouth and gums.
