Pb Launches Month-Long Voter Verification Drive from June 25

Chandigarh :

Punjab will launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of electoral rolls from June 25 to update and verify voter records across the state ahead of future elections. The exercise will continue until July 24, while the final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra announced that 24,453 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits to distribute, verify and collect enumeration forms. The campaign will cover more than 2.14 crore registered voters across the state.
Speaking at a media briefing, Mitra said the revision process is being carried out as per the directions of the Election Commission of India to ensure that electoral rolls remain accurate, updated and free from discrepancies. Along with voter verification, rationalisation of polling stations will also be completed during the exercise.
After the completion of the field verification process, the draft electoral roll will be published on August 3. Voters will then have time until September 2 to submit claims and objections regarding the inclusion, deletion or correction of names. All such applications will be resolved by September 28, and the final voter list will be released on October 1.
Officials informed that 86.02 per cent voter mapping has already been completed in Punjab. Lists of voters whose mapping is pending have been shared with political parties to facilitate the verification process.
As part of the exercise, voters will be required to declare that they have not acquired citizenship of any country other than India and that their names are not registered in the electoral rolls of any other constituency. If a voter is not available during a BLO’s visit, officials will leave the form along with a notice indicating the dates of follow-up visits.

The Election Commission has appealed to voters and political parties to actively cooperate with the campaign to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll and able to exercise their democratic right in upcoming elections.
