Mohali :
The Health Department intensified its ‘Every Friday, Fight Dengue’ campaign across Mohali district today carrying out inspections and awareness drives to prevent the spread of dengue ahead of the monsoon season.
Under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain, health officials inspected houses and public places in Phase 9, Mohali, checking containers, coolers, flower pots, refrigerators and other water-holding items for mosquito larvae. Officials also educated residents about dengue symptoms, prevention and the importance of preventing water stagnation.
Dr. Jain said the campaign is being conducted across the district on the directions of the Punjab Government. Along with door-to-door surveys, officials are also issuing challans wherever mosquito breeding is detected. She appealed to residents to cooperate with the Health Department and ensure that water does not collect in or around their homes, stressing that public participation is essential to make the district dengue-free.
She said the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads dengue, breeds in clean stagnant water and bites during the daytime. Although dengue cases are generally reported between July and November, preventive measures must begin well in advance. She also informed that dengue testing and treatment are available free of cost at government health institutions, and people can seek information through the Health Department’s 104 helpline.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni was also present during the inspection. Health officials advised residents to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting or bleeding from the nose and gums.
