AAP Councillor Ramchandra Yadav Joins Congress, Shifts Chandigarh MC Equations

Chandigarh :

Political equations in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation have changed once again as AAP councillor Ramchandra Yadav, who was expelled from the party over alleged anti-party activities, joined the Congress.
With Yadav’s joining, the Congress strength in the Municipal Corporation House has increased to 10 councillors, while AAP’s strength has come down to 7. The BJP continues to be the largest party with 18 councillors.
The development has strengthened Congress’s claim to the Leader of Opposition post, which was earlier held by AAP. Congress leaders are expected to approach the Mayor and Municipal Corporation Commissioner regarding the post.
AAP had emerged as the largest party in the 2021 Municipal Corporation elections, winning 14 seats. However, several defections over the years have reduced its strength. Earlier, AAP councillor Munawwar had also joined the Congress.
With Yadav’s move, Congress has now become the second-largest party in the House, while AAP has slipped to third position, further altering the political balance in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.
