Patients and visitors at Primary Health Centre Boothgarh were sensitised about safety measures to protect themselves from the ongoing heatwave during an awareness programme organised at the health centre.
Under the guidance of Senior Medical Officer Dr. Alkajot Kaur, Dr. Arun Bansal advised people to increase their intake of fluids during the hot weather. He recommended consuming plain water, buttermilk, lemon water, juices, coconut water, and ORS solution to avoid dehydration.
He also urged people to avoid going outdoors between 12 noon and 3 pm, when the heat is at its peak. Special care should be taken of children and elderly people during this period.
Dr. Bansal advised residents to keep doors and windows closed during the daytime and to cover their heads and wear sunglasses while stepping out. People were also encouraged to sit in shaded or cool places if outdoors, avoid walking barefoot, and drink water every half hour. Carrying water while travelling in the sun and avoiding stale, oily, and outside food was also recommended.
He further stressed avoiding cooking during peak heat hours and keeping kitchen areas properly ventilated. Parents were advised not to leave children or animals inside parked vehicles. People were also asked to avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and strenuous physical activities during extreme heat conditions.
Dr. Tapinder Singh was also present on the occasion.
